Mourning staff death from Covid-19 is backdrop for a change in how to weigh in-person learning

The December death of school district staff member James “Jimmy” Ravanis moved the risk of Covid-19 transmission from an abstraction to reality for some this week, adding weight to passage of a new method of deciding in-person classes versus remote learning as the pandemic continues.

Contract tracing efforts show it’s highly likely two children contracted Covid-19 from adults while at in-person classes in Cambridge Public Schools, city councillors learned Monday. The district will offer testing to more students as it prepares to expand in-person classes.
