Galleries in Somerville and Cambridge have a lot to offer holiday shoppers with a taste for the creative, including small art pieces under $200.

In a look ahead at a week of Cambridge and Somerville events, a cemetery hosts the “Solstice” light show, “Slutcracker” is in Davis and Revels’ “Feast of Fools” is in Harvard along with holiday sales, an illuminated-home tour, comedy, musical theater, klezmer and Open Mike Eagle and much more.

Behold: Brattle Theater projectionist Alex Kittle has an art sideline, and in one project has blended research and illustrations into a charming zine on the sculptor Ruth Asawa.

Rings are the thing at Mobilia, the Huron Village gallery and shop. “The Reverent Ring” features wearables from 50 artists around the world.

There was cautious optimism for the future of the arts in Somerville at the second Cultural Capacity Vision Forum, held Nov. 13, but some plan recommendations are lofty, referring to financing and government structures that would have to be built.

For an “Open Studios” event there was many a closed door Saturday at the weekendlong Brickbottom and Joy Street art buildings in East Somerville. That made each open door in the labyrinthine postindustrial buildings a delight.

In studying the future of city-owned lots and properties in and around Central Square, four have uses already set as affordable housing and open space, while 10 – five buildings and five empty lots – need more discussion.

The organization wants to pack its renovated 4,500-square-foot black box theater and new 1,100-square-foot street-front studio with a community celebration.

The “Museum of Modern Renaissance” has come a long way since artist-owners Nicholas Shaplyko and Ekaterina Sorokina bought it from Freemasons in 2002.
