Public meetings this week look at a digital equity timeline, outdoor dining and Alewife traffic congestion; the next fiscal year’s budget, department by department; Covid vaccinations for kids and an Eversource brochure backlash; and affordable apartments proposed for 2072 Massachusetts Ave.
Councillors were left threatening another negative budget vote to express frustration over a municipal broadband feasibility study denied by the city manager for years – only for the city manager to tell councillors that it was a “game” they were playing with the jobs of city staff.
The building proposed for 2072 Massachusetts Ave. is everything we’ve stated we want as a city: affordable, family-sized homes that are transit oriented, on a major retail corridor, beautifully designed and environmentally sustainable. It meets all our major goals, and should be applauded.
Given the questionable financial premise of the 2072 Massachusetts Ave. building proposal, the Board of Zoning Appeal should either deny the comprehensive permit application for the current design or request an evaluation of the project finances, as allowed under state rules.
