Nonprofit helps aging in place

Cambridge Neighbors, 3 to 4 p.m. Friday. Somervillians โ€“ย along with people in Arlington, Belmont and Watertown โ€“ are invited to learn about Cambridge Neighbors, a nonprofit established in 2007 for older adults who want to stay in their homes and communities. The group, offering a variety of practical and social supports, meets at 545 Concord Ave., Suite 104, Fresh Pond, Cambridge. There is a Zoom option to attend. Union council election held

Union Square Neighborhood Council, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. The council holds its biannual board elections. The group helps โ€œshape the future of Union Square as an increasingly inclusive and vibrant neighborhoodโ€ by negotiating community benefit agreements with developers and through other advocacy. Folks who live, work, own or volunteer in Union Square may become members and vote. The board has 15 members; its structure has quotas for the types of members, such as identifying as an immigrant and owning a brick-and-mortar business. At the Albert F. Argenziano School, 290 Washington St., Ward 2. Members can also vote from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Somerville Media Center, 29 Properzi Way, Ward 2, Somerville.


Espresso bar with music

Licensing Commission, 6 p.m. Tuesday. The commission reviews an application by New Leaf Espresso for a full entertainment license for musical performances. Owner Eoin Jaquith seeks to have more than just coffee and pastries at the worker-owned espresso bar inside Razors Barbershop, which hosted music in April and has scheduled performances on Sundays in May. Also: The commission decides on an all-form alcohol license for Papa Sushi in Magoun Square, which reopened recently after a fire closed it for two years. On the second floor at City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill, or watchable via videoconferencing.

Plan to spend federal dollars

Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, 6 p.m. May 22. The city presents its 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan on how to spend federal dollars to create affordable housing for low-income households and through community development block grants. The city discusses the application for a $9.8 million loan on Phase II of the Clarendon Hill project, which aims to replace and expand a public housing development in West Somerville. The development of an action plan is required by the Office of Housing and Urban Development. In the auditorium of the Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Ave., Central Hill.
