Recycling was on officials’ minds Monday, with what amounts to a $500,000 admission that the Department of Public Works has no place to relocate from its offices in The Port, which also needs a redesign for resident pickup. A surprisingly successful mattress recycling program will also rise in cost.
Lifting a moratorium on removing healthy, significant trees before stronger tree protections are in place could have a devastating impact on our environment. Green Cambridge is excited and eager to continue the work of saving the tree canopy – but hopes the City Council will take action first.
The city will install backup cameras on more of its rubbish collection trucks and a drain cleaning vehicle that don’t have them now, but officials have not decided whether to add the equipment to dump trucks, and may ask a Cambridge-based federal transportation agency for advice on the matter.
