Whoa. Cambridge is considering renewing its license with Comcast cable for another decade. For many who’ve had any sort of business relationship with the Comcast monopoly, this would be like a dragooned sailor — having survived the rats, scurvy and daily lashings —  signing up for another few years with the British Navy.

The city has a survey online (participate by Oct. 23 and you may win Cambridge Community Television membership or a courier bag) and workshops planned to help determine whether Comcast wins a renewed contract. Hearing that brings to mind excited but selfish thoughts of having a competitor to provide Internet and prime-time television, but CCTV’s introduction to the survey leans pretty heavily toward local-media aspects of the deal. I’ll follow up on what it all means.

In the meantime, I’m having Comcast flashbacks, and it’s not pleasant.
