Sure to be of interest at Monday evening’s City Council meeting: Councillor Tim Toomey is resigning as co-chairman of the Ordinance Committee. Sam Seidel remains in place.

The letter of resignation is terse — one sentence, with no explanation.

Robert Winters, at his Cambridge Civic Journal, is calling it a “legislative tantrum” spurred by an 8-1 loss over the spending of money gained from expansion of the Education First Foundation in NorthPoint. The proposal at the previous council meeting was for $914,000 to be spread through Cambridge, with some earmarked for NorthPoint’s neighbor, East Cambridge, but Toomey felt an earlier proposal — less money, but all for East Cambridge — was appropriate.

Toomey also submitted a policy order to examine whether the foundation is worthy of its tax-exempt status, and it is also on tonight’s agenda.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square.
