Dancers take to the floor at The Dance Complex, a nonprofit in Central Square.

Free, 20-minute dance classes are to be offered May 8 at a Sunday open house event being billed by The Dance Complex as “a perfect Mother’s Day gift.”

The faculty-taught classes will range “from salsa to strengthening, modern to Middle Eastern,” said Rozann Kraus, founder of the nonprofit, artist-run dance education and performance center in Central Square. “Each teacher will do a sweet taste of their dance style.”

The 1 to 5 p.m. open house is for all levels of interest and achievement, said Kraus, who suggested people could take all the classes or just watch others — although it’s “nearly impossible to resist” joining in. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and be ready to dance barefoot, or bring a pair of dance shoes that haven’t been worn outside to try flamenco or ballet.

The classes are to take place in the “glorious” Julie Ince Thompson Theatre in the historic Odd Fellows Hall, Kraus said, at 536 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, Cambridge, near the red line Central Square T stop. Organizers say there is free parking for cars and bikes. For information, click here.
