Water has been restored to residents affected by an early Sunday water main break at Tierney and Winslow streets, police said at 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

Although water has been restored, additional repairs to the water main may be necessary soon, according to a press release from Cambridge Police Department communication specialist Dan Riviello.

“Residents in the affected area are thanked for their patience and understanding as this situation is resolved,” Riviello said.

The roughly six-inch break came at 8:36 a.m., affecting service to residents in the immediate area, which is between Danehy Park and Radcliffe, northwest of Harvard Square. Repairs were originally expected by the afternoon, and Tierney Street between Huron Avenue and Winslow Street was closed for the duration. No boil water-order was issued, as water in the area and throughout the city stayed safe to drink.
