The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers launched a two-week online auction Monday to raise money for its health and social programs.
The MAPS Summer Splash Auction, hosted by the charity-focused BiddingForGood online auction platform, launched at 7 a.m. with such items as an NFL football autographed by New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski and a Whitewater rafting trip to Maine for four — 48 items in total, so far. Bidders can get automatic updates on their auctions up until the event’s close at 11 p.m. July 23.
“This is an excellent way to bring us closer to the community and allow people to contribute to the work we do,” said Paulo Pinto, the alliance’s executive director. “Bidders can win twice — by purchasing the items in the auction and by learning more about the services we can provide with their support.”
The 42-year-old alliance is based in Cambridge and has six offices throughout Cambridge, Somerville, Allston, Dorchester, Lowell and Framingham, where it provides services to Portuguese speakers of all backgrounds.
