070813i-Katherine-ClarkFrom the Katherine Clark campaign, Aug. 12: United Steelworkers Union Local 12012 gave its endorsement Monday to Katherine Clark as she campaigns for the 5th Massachusetts District seat in Congress, with a representative saying she will “stand up to Republican extremists attacking women’s rights and change the conversation in Washington to helping middle-class families cover health care costs, pay for college educations and save for retirement.”

“You have consistently been a strong supporter of working families, which is of the utmost importance to our members,” local president John Buonopane said. “Particularly in a time of declining union membership, it is crucial that there be strong voices like yours in Washington who recognize the importance of union labor.”

A mother of three boys who attend public schools, Katherine understands working families and will go to Congress to help middle-class families keep the American Dream within reach, the campaign said.

“It’s an honor to have the support of the Steelworkers Local 12012,” said Clark, a Democratic state senator from Melrose. “The issues that working families and I talk about around our kitchen tables will be on the table for me in Washington – creating jobs, investing in education and infrastructure and increasing the minimum wage.”

In addition to Steelworkers Local 12012, Katherine has received endorsements from Ironworkers Local 7, NAGE/IBPO/SEIU Local 5000, Teamsters Local 25, IBEW Local 123 and the Women’s Campaign Fund. She has also been placed “On The List” by Emily’s List.
