From the city of Cambridge, June 15: The city is looking for a resident interested in volunteering to serve on the Cambridge Kids’ Council. The council meets six to seven times per year on the third Thursday of the month at 5:15 p.m. to develop policy and program recommendations aimed at making sure Cambridge is a place where children and youth are healthy, safe, educated and civically engaged. Council members include elected officials, city department heads, community and nonprofit leaders, business representatives and residents and are led by the mayor.

The council is focusing on family engagement and developing recommendations to create and support partnerships between families and the organizations and institutions that serve them.  Past initiatives include creating a citywide Family Engagement Policy adopted by the City Council in November 2013; developing recommendations to enhance the capacity of the Community Engagement Team by hiring additional outreach workers and a full-time program assistant; developing a training program; and establishing a more formal partnership with Cambridge Public Schools. It is also working with Code for Boston to develop an easy-to-use, single-point portal that can be translated into multiple languages so families, youth and those who support them can easily find activities, services and resources in Cambridge.

For information, call executive director Nancy Tauber at (617) 349-6239 or send e-mail to [email protected]. To apply, submit a letter of interest by June 30 to Cambridge Kids’ Council, 51 Inman St., Cambridge, MA 02139 or email a letter to Tauber.
