Applicants for a firefighter exam to be held April 16 should attend a candidate open house information session from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at  City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, city officials said.

Organizers said they are looking for candidates with “integrity, courage and a willingness to help those in need” to take the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Open Competitive Municipal Service Written Examination for Firefighters in April.

The test has two parts: written and of physical abilities, and candidates must take and pass both to be put on the list for appointment in a civil service city or town.

The early application deadline is March 1, with a fee of $200. Applications will be accepted no later than March 21, with a fee of $250.
