The award celebrates innovators from the business, institutional and nonprofit communities making a difference in Cambridge and beyond. “The Visionary Awards are a way for the chamber to showcase some of the life-altering discoveries and dynamic collaborations that are happening right here in our backyard,” chamber president David Maher said.

The list of recipients include: Jennifer Brogdon and her team from Novartis for their collaboration in developing cutting-edge gene therapy in the fight against cancer; the research team from Microsoft and the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard for using machine-learning techniques that allow for quick and effective use of the powerful and revolutionary gene editing tool CRISPR; the partnership between Harvard University Dining Services and the local nonprofit Food for Free establishing a sustainability effort that provides thousands of meals to families in need; LabCentral, for forming the first-of-its-kind-shared laboratory that serves as a launchpad for research and innovation for life sciences and biotech startups; Pyara Spa and Salon’s “Hello Gorgeous” program for fostering compassion and support for women facing the challenges of cancer by boosting morale and self-esteem; and Matignon High School for its dynamic strategic planning initiative focused on personalized education, mindfulness and meaningful partnerships with the local business and academic communities.
