Jose Bermudez, 55, was arrested Thursday and charged in connection with the April 14 stabbing of Danilo Perez, 33, arraigned by telephone in Cambridge District Court and ordered held without bail.

Bermudez has been charged with murder and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge Police Commissioner Branville G. Bard Jr. said. His next court date is scheduled to be held via video on June 25.

The stabbing likely occurred around 5:18 p.m. around Green Street and Sidney Place, Cambridgeport, near the University Park Commons south of Lafayette Square. Bermudez and Perez, acquaintances in the homeless community, are believed to have argued before the fight escalated into violence; Bermudez stabbed the victim multiple times, police said. Perez fled, making it to Franklin Street before being found by a jogger. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators identified the suspect as Bermudez. After detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office provided information that Bermudez had been seen in the area Wednesday, the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested Bermudez without incident early Thursday in Allston, authorities said.
