The organization Middle Schoolers 4 Change is taking submissions from middle school students Grades 5 to 8 to make either an engineering invention based around an Earth day theme or submit Earth-inspired artwork using recycled materials.

There will be one winner, getting a $15 gift card toward eco-friendly buys. Founder Boniswa Sundai says her daughter, a rising eighth-grader at the Putnam Avenue Upper School, is using her own money for the prize.

The goal of the project is to get middle schoolers involved in thinking about ways in which they can care for the Earth. The project is also interested in photos of middle schoolers caring for the earth – gardening, wearing eco-friendly clothes, learning about climate change and so on.

Submit entries here. Submissions are due by April 30.
