Antiracism workshop in Spanish

Racism in the Mind, Skin and Action, 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. SomerViva, the city’s immigrant affairs department, joins with nonprofit organizations United for a Fair Economy and Equipo Maiz to host a workshop to teach community members how to take action against racism, particularly in immigrant communities. Held in Spanish with English interpretation, the workshop uses popular education tools to help guide the conversation. RSVPs are requested. The event will be held at 146 Broadway, East Somerville.


Talk on East Broadway mobility

East Broadway bus and crosswalk office hours, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Staff of the city’s Mobility Division hold virtual office hours to talk about planned East Broadway bus and crosswalk improvements. The public can join anytime during this hour and meet in a breakout room with a staff member. Participants have approximately five minutes, depending on attendance, to ask questions and share feedback.

Councilors want community center

City Council Housing and Community Development Committee, 6 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by councilor Kristen Strezo seeks to encourage the city to form a task force to consider creating a community center. Several large developers putting up buildings in Boynton Yards and Union Square are legally required to create community space in their new buildings. A community-led group has been meeting for months to discuss this issue, but no official city task force has been created. Watchable by videoconferencing.

New hotel on McGrath, Part I

Zoning Board of Appeals, 6 p.m. Wednesday. The board considers a proposal from Somerbridge Hotel to develop a six-story hotel at 1 McGrath Highway, spanning the Cambridge border on a vacant car wash site just across the road from a Holiday Inn. The proposal includes 86,765 square feet of commercial space (63,560 of it in Somerville), 199 guest rooms, 13 car parking spaces (all in Cambridge), 18 long-term bicycle parking spaces and nine short-term bicycle parking spaces. New hotel on McGrath, Part II

Planning Board, 6 p.m. Thursday. After meeting with the Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday, Somerbridge Hotel brings its proposal to build a six-story hotel at 1 McGrath Highway to the Planning Board, which is responsible for granting site plan approval and special permits. This hearing focuses on whether the property can be used for a hotel and exempted from the minimum motor vehicle parking requirement, as the applicant proposes only 13 parking spaces where 77 are required.
