Union Square Donuts is coming to Harvard Square, according to city documents and a quietly introduced addition to the list of merchants at Regency Centers’ Abbot building.

The formal address for the doughnut store will be 15 JFK St., according to a Historical Commission agenda for June 1 for an internally illuminated blade sign. The space is small, at the corner of The Abbot between its Chase Bank and a neighboring Sweetgreen eatery. The Abbot’s business have also been known as “The Harvard Collection.”

The first Union Square Donuts shop opened in Somerville in February 2013, selling $3 doughnut flavors such as chocolate chipotle, maple bacon, hibiscus rose, orange ginger cream and honey almond. Josh Danoff and Heather Schmidt focused on yeast-based pastry over cake-based that proved popular enough to build on a doughnut fad and even expand as it faded: Union Square Donuts is now in Somerville’s Assembly Row as of March 2022, Brookline’s Coolidge Corner as of January 2017 and markets in Boston in The Fenway and on Hanover Street. The pastry are now $3.75 to $5.

The Harvard Square branch was expected in early Autumn, “just in time for apple cider doughnut season,” said Lynn Sniffen, director of operations for Union Square Donuts, in a follow-up email. The location will also have hot and cold brew coffee from Atomic Coffee Roasters of Salem, Sniffen said.

In addition to innumerable Dunkin’ locations, the area features a Donut Villa Diner at 20 Prospect St., Central Square; Davis Square Donuts & Bagels at 377 Summer St., Somerville; and Mass Hole Donuts at 1157 Broadway, Somerville.

No additional information about the Union Square Donuts expansion was immediately available.
