A Friendly Toast location in Harvard Square has opened, a server said Wednesday.

It’s been a long wait for the location – the chain confirmed in early March 2022 that it would fill the space at 1230 Massachusetts Ave. vacated by a relocating Grafton Street Pub & Grill.

Diners have been waiting longer for only one Harvard Square restaurant: The Painted Burro, an upscale Mexican restaurant in Somerville’s Davis Square that said in January 2022 that it would add its fourth location at 32 Church St., the former home of the Border Cafe in Harvard Square.

It could open in another four weeks, said Denise Jillson, executive director of the Harvard Square Business Association.

The Friendly Toast, known for its eclectic menu, brunch dishes, kitschy decor and amiable staff, opened in 2009 in Kendall Square. It closed its doors permanently in August 2020 as the Covid pandemic took hold, with owners saying they hoped to relocate within Cambridge when it was safe in terms of coronavirus and finances. “We look forward to being in a Cambridge neighborhood again soon,” they said.

The Harvard Square site, which a Facebook post said opened Monday, is the chain’s ninth. Aside from one each in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, all are in Massachusetts, with a Chestnut Hill location opening last year.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

This post was updated July 27, 2023, to correct that there is a Friendly Toast in Maine.
