The grilled street corn at Lone Star Taco Bar in Cambridge. (Photo: Mary Babb V. via Yelp)

Price: $9

Lone Star Taco Bar bills itself as Boston’s best – with restaurants in Cambridge and Allston. Though the geography may be fuzzy, one thing it does know is how to make good elote. For $9, you get three half cobs of “grilled street corn” with “cotija + garlic-lime aioli.” The corn was, in a word, delicious. The kernels were tender but retained a good bite, and the char on the corn added a smokiness that worked in tandem with the dusting of chili powder to offset the aioli’s richness. Though the corn was served with half a lime (a nice touch), the aioli itself was not particularly limey or garlicky. But it was deliciously creamy and tangy, with the cotija cheese adding needed saltiness. If the corn is any indication of the rest of the menu, Lone Star is absolutely worth it for more than a snack.
