The classic three-cheese grilled cheese at Roxy’s near Cambridge’s Central Square. (Photo: Madeleine Aitken)

A grilled cheese shop with a bar and arcade behind the freezer door? Sounds like a dream, but it’s a very real place, and it’s called Roxy’s Grilled Cheese. Roxy’s was started by a young Emerson grad as a food truck and has since added two bricks-and-mortar locations, including the one with an arcade in Central Square. The menu includes dolled-up versions with ingredients such as housemade basil pesto and caramelized onions, but I decided the best bet for evaluating quality would be to keep it simple, so I got the classic. I was not disappointed: This was an exceptionally good grilled cheese. The three cheeses were nicely melted (with great pull), but the bread was the showstopper. It was so crispy it felt almost like it had a crust, and that crunch balanced the softness and richness of the cheese for a pretty perfect bite.
