Price: $3.50

The recently opened Hi-Rise Sweets fills a tiny storefront on Huron Avenue, right around the corner from Hi-Rise Bread Co. Hi-Rise Bread sells breakfast and lunch foods with loaves to take home; Hi-Rise Sweets has more of an upscale vibe, with the primary offering being whole desserts (think lemon meringue pie and carrot layer cake with cream cheese frosting). It also has packaged cookies and a few dessert options such as the little cookie sandwich, which is essentially a homemade Oreo: vanilla cream between two chocolate cookies. It was just okay. The buttercream to cookie ratio is off – either the cookies needed less cream, or the amount of cream needs bigger cookies – making for a bite that was overwhelmingly buttercream-y. The cakes and pies would be a beautiful addition to any celebration, but I wouldn’t rush back for the little cookie sandwich, despite its ridiculously cute name.

  1. Sorry, you are wrong. I love these little cookies, as do my grandkids. And I cannot wait to order a beautiful (and delicious) cake for a special occasion.
