Snack’s been around long enough that I felt it was time to try a cannoli from the famous Mike’s Pastry (but in Harvard Square). It was out of cannoli cream at that moment (okay …), but there’s a huge selection of cakes and cookies as well. I opted for a vanilla cupcake that looked great but turned out to be very average. The cake was super airy and reminded me of the work of a supermarket bakery – sort of enjoyable in a nostalgic way, though you know it’s not actually good cake. The frosting was also just fine, thickly spread and super sugary. Because the cupcake was kept in a refrigerated case, it was actually still quite cold when I ate it and the frosting was hard, which didn’t help. It might have been better if I let it thaw longer, but I still think the verdict is: Edible but not particularly enjoyable.
