Central Square rezoning intro

Central Square Rezoning Block Party, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. (Rain date: Oct. 20.) Learn about the final recommendations for updates to Central Squareโ€™s zoning and other city initiatives in the area while enjoying pop-up mini golf, parkour, public art, play equipment, music and dancing. Human Services & Veterans Committee, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by vice mayor Marc McGovern and councillor Ayesha Wilson talks about issues facing homeless shelters in Cambridge and concerns raised by the unhoused community. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

Ideas for multifamily zoning

Neighborhood & Long Term Planning, Public Facilities, Arts & Celebration Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by city councillors Catherine Zusy and Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler hears from neighborhood leaders about revisions to a multifamily housing zoning proposal that could allow for construction of six-story buildings as of right in parts of the city where single-family homes are common. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

Improvements at Danehy Park

Danehy Park Improvement Plan Working Group, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. An in-person brainstorming session to refresh a park opened more than 30 years ago atop landfill. At the Sherman Street entrance (near the playground) of Danehy Park, 99 Sherman St., in Neighborhood 9 just east of Fresh Pond, Cambridge.

Changes in Central Square

โ€œAre You Part of Central Squareโ€™s Future?โ€ community discussion, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Learn and talk about the major changes planned for the neighborhood, sponsored by the Cambridge NAACP, Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition, The Black Response Cambridge, YWCA Cambridge, Our Revolution Cambridge and additional groups. Includes food, a musical performance and raffle. At Massasoit Elks Lodge, 55 Bishop Allen Drive, Central Square, Cambridge.


Testing a four-day workweek

Neighborhood & Long Term Planning, Public Facilities, Arts & Celebration Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 24. This committee run by city councillors Catherine Zusy and Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler looks at research on four-day workweek pilot programs that could affect businesses, government agencies and nonprofits, including models for a four-day workweek that have been tried locally.
