Tenóch, a Mexican chain in the Boston area, recently opened its seventh location in Harvard Square. The chain, with stores already in Davis Square and East Cambridge, is known for its tortas, but none of those are under our $10 price cutoff. Instead, I tried two kinds of tacos: asada and chorizo. Both came with grilled onions, a sprinkling of chopped raw onions and cilantro and a drizzle of guacamolillo, an avocado sauce. I really enjoyed the asada taco, which balanced tender, fatty pieces of steak with bright guacamolillo and onions, all on a perfect corn tortilla that melted in my mouth. The chorizo, on the other hand, was just too oily to be good. The meat was tasty, but the tortilla was soaked through with oil by the time I took a bite. It won’t stop me from returning to Tenóch, but it did put me off the chorizo.
