Kathe Farris is a comedians featured on the inaugural “Project Catharsis” lineup of “warm, vulnerable and talented” performers.

“My extended community is really going through a mental health crisis at the moment” isn’t the way you’d expect to be introduced to a comedy show. But the answer to the crisis by Half a Mind Comedy founder Shruti Datari is “Project Catharsis,” a blend of music (from Jessye DeSilva), drag (from Chito) and comedy (from Datari, Kathe Farris, Shelby LeCuyer and Liam McGurk). Unlike some variety shows in which act-switching can feel haphazard, Datari has crafted a “curated emotional journey” with a lineup full of “warmth, vulnerability and sheer talent” to leave an audience with lightness and a sense of hope. “I kept thinking about what kind of show I would personally love to attend right now,” Datari said. It’ll make you laugh, yes, but is also designed to generate compassion and curiosity for the people around us – to maybe help navigate a tough moment with a sense of togetherness.

“Project Catharsis” at 7 p.m. June 12 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. $15 to $20.
