There’s good and bad at Krispy Krunchy Chicken, a chain that has nearly 3,400 locations in 48 states but stays under the radar by operating mostly in minimarts and gas stations. Ours is open until 11 p.m. and has a menu to rival a Popeyes (including jambalaya and red beans and rice), and I paid $9 for three impressively large tenders and a honey-butter biscuit. I could have grabbed a free sauce, too. These were served hot and greasy – all good. The chicken in the tenders seems odd, though, like product rather than meat, and the biscuit was delicious but partially undercooked. I’m not dissuaded; I like this friendly outpost by the Fresh Pond Apartments a lot. But I plan to get a two-piece chicken and biscuit snack ($8) or three-piece chicken and biscuit snack ($10) instead of the tenders. (“Officially better than KFC or even Popeyes,” SFGate says of the chicken.)
