Bred is an indulgence, with lots of frying going on for a place specializing in smoked burgers. Downing a side of macaroni and cheese with the Cousin Stizz Fries (which pack in spicy sweet chili and buttermilk fried chicken) will leave you woozily contented. But the New Orleans-themed restaurant has a six-beignet dessert that’s hard to ignore no matter how much you think you might regret the additional extravagance. This deep-fried dough is cut into rectangles like plus-size nigiri sushi, their only similarity to the purity of fish and rice. They come powdered with sugar or glazed, and with Nutella or honey for another dollar. I had mine sugared, but by the time they reached me the sugar had essentially formed a glaze; I ordered the Nutella but had to talk myself into using it. That’s how rich these are, as irresistible at Bred as in New Orleans itself.
