At the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, the first varsity crew in the women’s youth four finished 10th out of 86 teams, matching the program’s best finish ever at the annual event. The team, made up of Isla Agnew, Imogen Wu, Sinead O’Gorman-Jones, Laurel Moldrem and coxswain Ada LaMaster, had a time of 18:49.738, the fastest ever for a Cambridge Rindge and Latin School girls’ four.

The second varsity crew in the women’s youth four, made up of Tenzin Lhamo, Emma Shaw, Catalina Godoy, Kat Levitt and coxswain Frances Fennell, finished 51st, with a time of 19:59.985. CRLS was the only team with two boats in this event, so every team that had a slower time was a first varsity crew.

In the women’s youth eight, CRLS placed 69th out of 86. In this boat were Jackie Long, Violet Finley, Bea Taylor, Clara Fennell, Nina Penagos-Esquitin, Theia Lund, Sanaya Iyer, Olive Kiraly and coxswain Giulietta Graeff. This boat finished ahead of many local, in-state rivals including Duxbury, Northfield Mount Hermon, Nobles, Winsor, Arlington-Belmont and Shrewsbury.

The 16 athletes who raced in the Head of the Charles for the CRLS girls’ crew team is the most in program history.

Boys’ crew: Two CRLS crews in the men’s youth four event raced at the Head of the Charles Regatta for the first time in the program’s history. The boys’ first varsity crew, consisting of Xavier Agran, Zephyr Larson, Mateus Verdi, Zeke Bittker and coxswain Michael Jamas, finished 41st out of 86 crews, with a time of 17:30.447. By finishing in the top half, the team qualified for next year’s regatta, the only public school boys’ four in the country to qualify a crew for 2026.

The second varsity crew, consisting of Daniel Moreland, Nicolas Karnath, Milo Sperry, Noah Fritz-Sherman and coxswain Son Schneider, was on track to outpace the first varsity team but ran into interference from another crew. CRLS needed to course correct and was penalized for crossing on the wrong side of a buoy. As a result, it finished in 47th place with a time of 17:40.881 and did not qualify for next year’s Head of the Charles.
