I forgive the people who sent me a vague mailer for not being up to date on the news, but they might not realize that the proposed boycott has come too late. I’d like to make supporters of the special military operation aware of a few signs of their ideological victory: First, I would be remiss not to mention that you have the full backing of the President of the United States (POTUS) and his party. Second, if a grad student publishes an op-ed criticizing the operation, they can be abducted by masked agents. Third, we can participate if we wish โ recently there was the story of a sniper, famous for his admitted execution of an unarmed teenager, who turned out to be a Chicagoan. How proud Somerville would be if we had a patriot like him in our midst.
It has been said that the proposed ordinance may in theory be unenforceable or illegal in some way, or that it’s only advisory in nature. Well, then it sounds like we have nothing to worry about. My theory is that supporters of the special military operation resent that theirย neighbors don’t hold the sameย viewsย about a small country in the Middle East as them. I would prefer to focus on Somerville, but alas.
I am fortunate to have my papers โ I was born down the street in JP โ so I won’t face banishment for my letter, but maybe one day I will, the way things are going. It seems that people support that kind of thing now.
