
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School football team (4-4) destroyed Boston Latin, 50-0, on Saturday to secure a berth in the postseason tournament. The Falcons chose to opt out of the tournament, though, and will not face Catholic Memorial, the team they had been slated to play.
The offense was led by quarterback Joseph Derege, who completed eight passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for another touchdown. Nikko Santos caught five passes for 130 yards, Chris Jean Baptiste caught a screen pass and took it 75 yards for a touchdown, and Hugo Davis scored on a 14-yard catch. Baptiste added five rushes for 20 yards and a touchdown. The other two offensive touchdowns came from Paul Dottin (three rushes for 51 yards) and Jamai Lewis (one rush for 18 yards).
On defense, Kamai Greene recovered a fumble and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Kelvin Ferreira had 2ยฝ sacks, four tackles for a loss and a forced fumble. Lucas Diaz registered four tackles, including a tackle for a loss, and a sack.
Boysโ soccer: The boysโ soccer team (10-3-3) finished its regular season Oct. 28 with a 5-1 defeat of Acton-Boxborough. Anass Eddiani and Emmanuel โE-Manโ Alemu, seniors, each scored their first-ever varsity goals. The other goals were scored by Elias Hyland, Shiferaw Jida Sesia and the teamโs leading scorer, Jason Lim. Assists came from Bona Alemu, Sesia, Eddiani and Rhys Brown.
The Falcons are seeded ninth in the postseason tournament and will face 24th-seeded Lexington tonight at 6 at Danehy Park.
Girlsโ soccer: The girlsโ soccer team (9-6-2) defeated North Andover in the preliminary round of the postseason tournament in a 5-4 shootout. Shootout goals came from Lucia Ochsendorf, CeCe Lubetsky, Mariye Demissie, Malena Alvarez Saavedra and Fio Eddy. Goaltender Eddyโs save on North Andoverโs third kick ended up making the difference. The 31st-seeded Falcons will face Bishop Feehan, the No. 2 seed, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Feehanโs McGrath Stadium.
CRLS finished the season Oct. 28 with a 1-0 loss to Acton-Boxborough. The Falcons had several scoring opportunities but couldnโt put the ball in the net. Acton-Boxborough had 12 shots on goal, but the CRLS defense played well to keep the game close.
Cross-country: At the Frank Mooney Invitational on Saturday, in the large schools division, Edwin Voiland finished first in the boysโ first-year student 3k (9:59.62). For the girls, Neelu Trivedi finished 15th in the large schools senior 5k (21:17.80). Lauren Sebesta took 16th in the large schools junior 5k (21:42.10). ย
