The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School boys’ soccer team’s tremendous season came to an end Nov. 12 with a 4-1 loss to St. John’s Prep in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Falcons’ lone goal came on a header from Rhys Brown with an assist from Brennan Loud.

“It was an incredible season,” coach Niko Emack said. “Familiarizing ourselves with what a playoff run looks like is a great blueprint for next season.” (Disclosure: Emack is a member of Cambridge Day’s board.)

The team finished the season with a 12-4-3 record, a marked improvement over last year’s 5-9-4 campaign. “It took a while for my style to take hold,” Emack said. “There was always going to be some growing pains. I saw a lot of the seeds I planted last season grow into the success we saw this season.”

Much of the Falcons’ success can be chalked up to the team’s cohesiveness. “I’m very proud of the way that the whole team stuck together,” said Loud, a senior center back. “I think in past years there has been a big gap between upperclassmen and the younger guys, but this year I really felt like I got to know and play well with everyone on the team.”

“I’m also extremely proud of the whole back line. By the end of the season I trusted every single one of them and was confident playing with all of them. I thought that was really special,” Loud said.
