Snow removal on Oxford Street during a 2018 storm.

As snow falls on Cambridge, plows are struggling to clear the streets. The problem: on-street parkers who havenโ€™t moved their cars ahead of todayโ€™s storm.

The city issued an alert to residents of Cambridgeport, Riverside, and Wellington-Harrington, where
compliance for the cityโ€™s on-street parking ban has been low. The excess number of cars still on the road is โ€œpresenting challenges for plowing and tow operators,โ€ according to Jeremy Warnick, the city’s director of media relations.

This occurs as the city rushes to remove accumulated snow off the streets and onto its โ€œsnow farmโ€ in Danehey Park.

The parking ban is in effect on many major Cambridge streets, including Massachusetts Ave., Broadway, and Mount Auburn. Major streets impacted in Riverside and Cambridgeport include Putnam Ave., Western Ave., and River Street. Major streets impacted in Wellington-Harrington include Cambridge St. and Hampshire St.
