It’s time for the 2026 Midterm Election and I have some suggestions on how voters can help themselves and other voters do their civic duty.

Nine statewide ballot questions will dominate voters’ time when they study the ballot and fill the “Yes” or No” oval beside their choice. The questions include 1) Changing the public records law. 2) Allowing Public Counsel employees to collectively bargain. 3) Changing primaries to single, all-party contests. 4) Allowing Election Day registration. 5) Limiting State revenue collection. 6) Establishing a Natural Resource Conservation Fund. 7) Passing statewide zoning for single-family homes. 8) Repealing of the Adult Recreational Use Marijuana Law. And 9) Affirming the 2024 Firearms Regulation Law.

If you choose to vote by mail, you will have plenty of time to study these questions and fill out your ballot. If you choose to vote in person, do your research, make your choices on these ballot questions beforehand, and come to the voting booth prepared. This will help keep your time in the booth shorter and reduce the waiting times for others at the polls.

Finally, you can’t vote if you aren’t registered to vote. You can check your registration status online through the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office. If you aren’t already a Cambridge voter, the last day to register for the November 2026 election is October 24th.

In advance, thank you for helping your fellow voters and thank you for voting!
