SustainaVille, Noon to 6 p.m. Friday. Folks interested in electric vehicles and mobility options such as electric cars, bikes or scooters are invited to attend the cityโs E-Mobility Expo and engage with presenters including the Somerville E-Bike Library, Green Energy Consumers Alliance and CargoB. This event is the last of the cityโs annual sustainability and climate action week. Held at the 44 Day St., Davis Square, public parking lot.
Neighbors talking to neighbors
Departments of Racial And Social Justice and Health And Human Services, 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. The city hosts adult and youth dialogue sessions on race as part of its recently launched โNeighbors Talking to Neighborsโ program โ a conversation series trying to create and strengthen open, respectful community connections through facilitated dialogue. The departments organize four topics of city and national importance, including immigration, LGBTQIA+ community and interfaith relations. Free, but registration is required. Watchable via videoconferencing; an in-person event is expected to end the series.
Porchfest this weekend
Arts Council, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. A famed community event in which musicians play live music from their porches and front yards throughout the city. Since 2011, the โdecentralized music festivalโ has grown in size. Guster played a pop-up show near membersโ old apartment last year; emergency responders had issues getting through swelling crowds, leading to new event and safety rules we wrote about here: Music is forbidden on most major roads, and official festival musicians get Porchfest badges. In-person across the city, with playing times moving from West Somerville to East Somerville by zone. (Rain Date: Sunday.)
Mamas restarts aid study group
Mutual Aid Medford and Somerville, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The organization relaunches a monthly study space with discussions about what mutual aid is and how it is organized. The Mamas organization works to build a โcommunity to learn, practice and deepen our commitments to making change togetherโ using praxis, a study and reflection framework. The study group meets monthly the second Wednesday of the month through September. Watchable via videoconferencing.
