Oliver Henke pitched five shutout innings and struck out nine to lead the Cambridge Rindge and Latin baseball team (1-0) past Brookline on April 1 in its first game of the season. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when Campbell Callahan, who had three hits, drove in Conor Brown with a two-out RBI double. The Falcons scored four runs in the sixth inning and seven in the seventh inning to break the game open. Stef Alexandrove had two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning.
Softball: The softball team (0-2) lost to Everett, 10-7, on Monday. Pitcher Marin Albrecht struck out 10 and went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple, a stolen base, and two runs. Caroline Orr also went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Eleanor Halloran hit an inside-the-park home run.
Girls’ tennis: The girls’ tennis team (0-3) dropped a tough match to Boston Latin Academy on April 1, 3-2, and was defeated by Bedford, 5-0, on Monday. Against Boston Latin Academy, the first doubles team of P.C. Koester and Natalia Naef won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The second doubles team of Liza Itskhoki and Amelie Ramos also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. At third singles, Julia Popa dropped a tough match, 4-6, 6-7 (1-7).
In the loss to Bedford, Popa played another strong match, losing 5-7, 3-6. Koester and Naef lost at first doubles, 4-6, 4-6.
Boys’ lacrosse: The boys’ lacrosse team (0-1) lost its opener to Stoneham, 16-7. Owen Goldstein scored five goals and added two assists and four ground balls. The other two goals came from Eliot Burke.
Boys’ volleyball: The boys’ volleyball team (1-3) won its first match of the season on Monday, defeating Arlington 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-13). Owen Murphy had 30 assists, with Bruce Toledo leading with 10 kills, followed by Brennan Loud and Nate O’Connell with eight kills each.
Girls’ rugby: The girls’ rugby team (1-0) defeated Algonquin in its opener on Thursday, 48-15. Avie Marshall scored one try and made four conversion kicks. Louis DeGeorge scored two tries and had a strong game defensively, creating a few turnovers. Natalie Correia also scored two tries, and Eliza Kauffman scored a try after a 50-meter run. Emily Anne Winter also scored a try.
