A call to police about shots fired at about 11 p.m. Wednesday resulted in the finding of some spent shell casings, but no victim and no connection to Sunday’s fatal shooting, police said Thursday.

The call reported gunshots near Hoyt Field near Montague Street in Riverside, more than a mile from the Willow Street address where a 16-year-old was killed Sunday in the Wellington-Harrington neighborhood. A 17-year-old was critically injured in that same drive-by shooting. Police haven’t reported an arrest in the attack.

There was evidence of a gun being fired, but not of anyone being hurt, police said.

“Currently there is no information linking this incident to the recent shooting on Willow Street,” police said. “However, investigators are not ruling it out as a possibility as they continue to investigate both incidents.”

In addition to its normal compliment of neighborhood walking officers and patrol officers, bicycle officers have also been deployed across the city, officials said.
