041013fi-McGovernFrom the Marc McGovern campaign, Sept. 1: The Committee to Elect Marc McGovern to City Council has announced his endorsement by the Greater Boston Labor Council, representing 154 different unions in 24 communities, including Cambridge.

“I’m very excited to announce that I have received the endorsement,” McGovern said. “To have the support of such professions as teachers, construction workers, police, fire, transit workers, janitors and manufacturing workers who are represented by the GBLC is humbling. My commitment to working families is strong and I will be a champion for workers rights if elected to the Cambridge City Council. My deepest thanks to the GBLC for their faith in me.”

Political Director John S. Laughlin, of the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, a member of the GBLC, said McGovern “earned Painters District Council 35’s endorsement based on [his] record as a School Committee member, [his] positions supporting job creation, responsible development and [his] commitment to improving the quality of life for Cambridge residents.”

McGovern is serving his fourth term on the School Committee, where he has supported vocational education and apprentice and job training programs.
