From the Department of Public Works, March 15, 2016: Several city services are scheduled to resume April 1.

Public Works sweeps each street in Cambridge mechanically once per month, April 1 through December (weather permitting). Signs are posted on each residential street indicating the schedule. To ensure that streets are cleaned properly, cars must move off the side of the street being swept to avoid being ticketed and towed. Citywide street sweeping includes twice-yearly vacuum sweeping to improve stormwater quality. Information on street cleaning schedules and routes is here.

Separate yard waste collection also begins April 1 and continues through Dec. 16. Set yard waste out by 7 a.m. on the regular collection day, or after 6 p.m. the night before. If your yard waste was not picked up despite being properly prepared, call (617) 349-4800 by noon the day after collection, or use Commonwealth Connect. Remember that collections are delayed one day after a holiday.

Yard waste is not accepted in plastic bags by recycling or rubbish crews. Place yard waste in barrels marked with city-issued stickers facing the street, or in lawn refuse bags sold in most hardware stores. Barrels and bags must be set on the curb apart from the trash. Do not staple or tape bags. Bundle small twigs and branches with string. Call the department for stickers. More information on yard waste collection is here.
