The Urban Food Initiative, also known as Daily Table – the nonprofit grocer that just opened its third store in Central Square – is being given a “2021 Champion in Action” award in the category of Covid-19 Relief by Citizens Bank and NECN. The award includes $35,000 from Citizens to be used however the nonprofit wants; features and public service announcements from NECN, and public relations and promotional support; complimentary membership in the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network; and olunteer support from Citizens.

Since Covid-19 hit, Daily Table has been working on an online grocery ordering and delivery service that will offer free delivery for 1,500 of its most vulnerable customers. “Daily Table is ensuring that fresh, healthy food is accessible and affordable to our neighbors in their communities – a critical effort that is needed now more than ever,” said Jerry Sargent, president of Citizens Massachusetts.
