School building plans, Part I

School Committee Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee, 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. This subcommittee run by José Luis Rojas Villarreal will discuss the special state senate primary and election; how well Covid-19 safety protocols have worked since the start of the school year; and the scope of a request for proposals for a long-range building study approved for funding this summer by the city, a topic getting City Council scrutiny the next day. This committee run by city councillor Patty Nolan picks up the conversation from Tuesday about long-term planning for school buildings, including the status of plans districtwide, expected relocations and how enrollment might change over time. Experts assess ‘Heart’ proposal

Public Safety Committee, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. This committee run by city councillor Quinton Zondervan will hear from experts on details of the “Heart” proposal for a nonprofit public safety force outside municipal control and focused on human services – an outgrowth of the “defund police” movement from the summer of 2020. (The full name of the organization would be ‌the Holistic‌ ‌Emergency‌ ‌Alternative‌ ‌Response‌ ‌Team.) The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square.
