A 34-year-old Cambridge man was shot early Monday in Central Square, police said. It was the year’s 12th gunfire incident, but only the second with a victim.

Police got reports of gunshots at around 1:31 a.m centered around the Seven Stars new-age bookstore at 731 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, where officers found three shell casings. The victim was found a half-mile away to the east on School Street, said Jeremy Warnick, director of communications and media relations for Cambridge police.

The victim was treated there by police officers and firefighters, then taken by Pro EMS to a local hospital “with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries,” Warnick said.

Detectives are trying to speak further with the victim to learn more about the incident, Warnick said. Anyone with information about the Monday incident is asked to call (617) 349-3300 or make contact anonymously.

The city’s last gunfire incident was Sept. 11, in The Port neighborhood. The only other gunfire incident this year in Central Square was July 3.
