Police detectives are investigating a physical assault at Market and Windsor streets in The Port neighborhood, where a Cambridge woman in her 20s was walking her dog around midnight Monday.
The woman said she noticed a man walking on the other side of the road wearing all black, including a black ski mask. After she passed and eye contact was made, the man turned around and tackled her, hitting her multiple times, she said, then taking the dog. The dog was later found by a good Samaritan, and it was reunited with the woman Monday afternoon.
Detectives have access to surveillance footage from homes in the area of the reported assault that show the man walking near where the assault took place, and at around the same time.
Officers and Pro EMS ambulance workers arrived quickly and treated the woman for injuries; she declined to be taken to a hospital, police said.
Police ask the communityโs help in identifying the man. โIn the meantime, Cambridge police have been and will continue to provide enhanced attention to the area, particularly during the evening and early morning hours,โ said said Jeremy Warnick, director of communications and media relations for Cambridge police.
Anyone with information about the Monday incident is asked to call (617) 349-3300 or make contact anonymously.

If the city had CCTV cameras it might be easier to
see who this man is and make it easier to see his route of “escape.”
Why is Cambridge so reluctant to install the cameras. The excuse given is that it invades your privacy. That is a poor excuse. When you are walking on a street you have no privacy.
What is it going to take for the City Council to come into the real world. As this incident shows
there is a need for cameras. Let’s not wait until a child is harmed, a car jacking takes place, or some other tragic event unfolds.
