Budget season continues

City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. It’s week three of the council’s annual three-week marathon to review and revise the mayor’s proposed budget, and the Finance Committee led by councilor Jake Wilson holds hearings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. The following departmental budgets will be reviewed Tuesday: Public Works, Buildings, Grounds, School Custodians, Solid Waste, Lights and Lines/Electrical, Highway, Fleet Management, Snow Removal and Inspectional Services. The public may attend in person at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill; televised and watchable by videoconferencing, and posted online after the meeting.

Historic building repairs

Historic Preservation Commission, 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The commission hears a request from the Somerville Hispanic Association for Community Development to allow repairs to the former Grace Baptist Church at 59 Cross St., East Somerville. Constructed in 1892, the Romanesque Revival building now serves as a community social service center with bilingual day care, a food pantry and other activities. The nonprofit bought the building in 2006 and works with Spencer Preservation Group architects to maintain it. Watchable by videoconferencing.


Budget cuts considered

City Council Finance Committee, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Nearing the end of the annual budget process, this meeting is “cut night,” when councilors consider cuts to departmental budgets. The public may attend in person at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill; televised and watchable by videoconferencing, and posted online after the meeting.


Final budget vote arrives

City Council, 6 p.m. Thursday. Councilors have their final say on the 2024 fiscal year municipal budget and year-end transfers. Driving in Spanish

Driver’s License Information Session, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. Somerviva: Office of Immigrant Affairs, Cosecha and the Welcome Project host an information session in Spanish regarding updated requirements to get a Massachusetts driver’s license. The meeting takes place in the East Somerville Community School Cafeteria, 50 Cross St., East Somerville. Pre-registration is encouraged.
