A woman fought off a potential rapist at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday while walking her dog on CambridgePark Drive, police said.

CambridgePark Drive passes by Alewife Station, a stop on the MBTA red line. But the attack was not near the T station, taking place farther down in a residential area around the woman’s apartment building, a police spokesperson said Monday.

The attacker was described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, police said.

So-called blitz rapes like the one police believe was tried Saturday are rare in Cambridge: There were three in 2021, the most recent year for which there is an annual crime report. The most recent monthly report says there was one previous blitz assault in 2023.
