Fair Housing updates
Fair Housing Commission, 3 p.m. Thursday. The commission meets to discuss Anti-Displacement Task Force updates, Fair Housing month events, review of calls and complaints since the last meeting and more. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
City asks about federal funds
Five-Year Consolidated Plan community meeting, 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The city seeks community input on how to spend around $3.2 million annually to benefit low- and moderate-income residents. These yearly funds come from the federal government for housing and community development activities. To get the funds, the city has to create a five-year plan to decide where funding is needed; the 2024-2028 period is being discussed. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing. Preregistration is required.
Matching state green zoning
Land Use Committee and Planning Board, 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Once, the state had to catch up with Somerville’s sustainability-focused zoning. Now that construction methods and energy efficiency are included in Massachusetts stretch and specialized energy codes, Somerville needs to update its 2019 zoning ordinance to catch up with the state. Anti-rat composting workshop
Compost and Rodent Prevention Workshop, 11 a.m. Sunday. At this event hosted by the city and Groundwork Somerville, an environmental nonprofit, attendees can learn how to build their own rodent-proof compost system and learn about different composting methods. This event will take place at Freedom Way, Medford.
Ending delays on Reavis Field
Open Space, Environment and Energy Committee, 6 p.m. Monday. This committee run by city councilor Wilfred Mbah asks staff to explain what’s preventing the high school’s Reavis Field from opening and how the process can be sped up, as well as considers steps to keep invasive species from ravaging the city (including funding for a staff position) and a design, cost and implementation timeline for a composting program. Edgerly school improvements
City Council Finance Committee, 6 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councilor Jake Wilson looks at various proposals, many for use of the city’s “free cash.” Among the items are around $4 million in Edgerly Education Center improvements as it houses students from the closed Winter Hill Community Innovation School and $800,000 in help for unhoused people. 246 Broadway meeting
Neighborhood meeting about 246 Broadway, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Developers and owners of 246 Broadway, Winter Hill, present revised plans for demolition so they can to put up a five-story replacement across from Foss Park that includes some affordable homes. Attendees will be able to provide feedback, which the team will use to seek zoning approval. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
