A bus rider is taken to an ambulance for transport away from a collision Friday in North Cambridge in a screen capture from a Catch Boston video on social media.

A collision between a Volkswagen and an MBTA bus in North Cambridge left several passengers injured Friday.

A Route 77 bus headed north on Massachusetts Avenue toward Arlington Heights reached Gold Star Road shortly before 5 p.m. when it was hit by a gray Volkswagen SUV whose driver was trying to make a left turn onto Gold Star Road. MBTA Transit Police said the driver of the Volkswagen failed to yield to the oncoming bus as it turned from the southbound lane of Massachusetts Avenue.

Emergency services, including Cambridge Fire, Cambridge Police, MBTA Transit Police and Pro EMS ambulances, arrived and guided traffic, took reports and evaluated passengers. Transit Police said 14 passengers reported minor injuries; Cambridge Police said 10 passengers, including an infant, were taken to a hospital. The bus driver was not hurt.

The Volkswagen and its driver remained at the scene of the crash. Slight damage from the collision was evident on the right side of the car; photos taken shortly after the collision show damage to the front of the bus.

The damaged bus was removed from service Friday, and a replacement bus was dispatched to complete the route.

  1. Nothing will be done about these people killing machines driven by untrained and distracted drivers because our society doesnโ€™t believe those outside of these ugly boxes on wheels are worth protecting

  2. I commend you, cambridgeresident. Such an absurdist and nonsensical statement has lured me into commenting on an article I would otherwise have passed over.

Is it just a lack of reading comprehension? Or does any report of a traffic accident, even if no one is “outside of these ugly boxes”, give you fits of tremors?
