Originally slated for a July launch, Chip City โ a national chain of cookie stores known for over-the-top flavors that rotate weekly โย finally opened its Harvard Square store Sept. 13. I chose the caramel apple cider doughnut cookie, mostly because it sounded the most outlandish: a โbrown sugar cookie made with apple butter, with a caramel-apple filling, topped with butter and cinnamon sugarโ (say that 10 times fast). I most enjoyed the filling, which tasted like apples but had the smooth consistency of caramel sauce, but the cinnamon sugar made for a nice, crunchy crust. Chip City is in many ways reminiscent of Crumbl, a national cookie chain that came to Central Square in March, and how I felt about Crumbl when I tried it is about how I feel about Chip City. The cookie was an enjoyable treat, but it didnโt blow my socks off by any stretch.
