“Organizing through comedy works.” Shelby LeCuyer knows of what she speaks. Years on Capitol Hill and in the world of political campaigns taught her how draining and demoralizing the work of democracy can be. When she presented the first Jokes for Justice show this year, she found that bringing a serious topic such as voting into comedy was a “ridiculously fun” experience. So she’s bringing two more editions to Greater Boston in time to energize folks for the Nov. 5 elections. “Humor makes politics more approachable and memorable,” she said. “With local comics, you are asked to consider your neighbors and local issues. It roots social change in what moves you.” Jokes For Justice, LeCuyer’s “accessible, real, and joyful” vehicle for political engagement, is staging two purposely nonpartisan editions: Oct. 17 locally and Oct. 26 in Roslindale. Each show features a lineup of local (and politically engaged) comics, aiming to cultivate “a sense of agency, hope and intention with this election … while also making the audience feel lighter.”
“Jokes for Justice: A Get-Out-the-Vote Comedy Show,” 7 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. $15 to $20.
