Comedy festivals can feel like a family reunion, and like some family reunions, the size and scale can eclipse the capacity of a hostโ€™s home โ€“ which is why the annual Union Improv Festival is in Somerville this weekend not at the organizationโ€™s Union Square location, but at The Rockwell in Davis Square. Over three days (Thursday through Nov. 16), audiences will be treated to 13 shows by teams from New York, Florida, Chicago and more. Because Unionโ€™s focus is on long-form improv โ€“ in which teams create longer and more intricate scenes rather than brief improv games a la โ€œWhose Line Is It Anywayโ€ โ€“ audiences will get to see three to four teams craft spontaneous stories each show. Special features include Friday nightโ€™s โ€œPsyched Out,โ€ featuring improv inspired by audience memberโ€™s psychic readings; and Sunday afternoonโ€™s โ€œDungeons and To Be Determined,โ€ a one-afternoon-only staging of an audience-generated TTRPG (tabletop role-playing game).

Union Improv Festival, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 4 p.. Nov. 16 at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. Single-show tickets are $12, Saturday passes are $69 and festival passes are $96.
